How did the former president Goodluck Jonathan give N200billion to public universities? The President Buhari-led administration only gave small amounts to public universities, says the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
Dr. Ibrahim Inuwa, the head of the ASUU branch at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi, told journalists that the current government has been slow to implement the MoUs and MoAs.
During this time, he said, the government is only paying lip service to the MoUs and MoAs, but it went ahead and raised the fees for students, claiming that the system would fall apart if they didn't. Who is being fooled?
"It is wrong for anyone to say that ASUU doesn't care about how the strike will affect the academic lives of students." We, too, feel the pain. The situation is just out of our hands.
To keep the tertiary education sector stable, Mr. President should also be honest about implementing the various MoUs and MoAs that have been signed. As a group, we are tired of being duped and getting nothing in return.
Remember that ASUU said that the strike would go on again if positive steps were not taken.
