A group from the north supports Governor Lalong of Plateau as the APC's vice presidential candidate

As the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) keeps looking for a running mate for its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a northern group called the Northern Nigerian Movement for Asiwaju 2023 has suggested Plateau State governor Simon Lalong for the job.
In a statement released in Abuja and signed by the group's National Coordinator, Dr. Mohammed Attahiru, the group said that Lalong, who is the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, is the best candidate for vice president out of all the names that have been written down.
The group said that since there was a lot of backlash against the APC running a Muslim-Muslim ticket, Lalong's status as a Christian, his experience as a two-term governor, and his position as chairman of the Northern Governors Forum gave him an edge over the other people who were being considered as Tinubu's running mate.
It also said that making Lalong a candidate for vice president would help Nigeria stay together.
It also said that the decision by delegates and other stakeholders from all over the country to make Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State and the leader of the APC, the party's presidential candidate for the 2023 election was a great and laudable one.
The group said it was sure that Tinubu had the right skills and experience to win the next general elections and bring much-needed change to the country, just like he did when he was governor of Lagos State.
In the statement, Attahiru said, "Tinubu is deeply rooted in Nigeria's political scene and has a lot of supporters and acceptance across the country."
The group did say, though, that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu's chances in the 2023 race will be helped by his choice of running mate, and that party leaders and other important people should think carefully about this choice.
"It is important for the leaders and key players in the ruling party to choose Tinubu's running mate with more care, thought, and strategy.
"Tinubu seems to know how important his choice of running mate is as he heads toward the important presidential election in 2023, which is why he is taking his time to make the right choice.
"Asiwaju has already given the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the name of one Ibrahim Masari as a temporary running mate until he can find a better one before the election.
"Tinubu said he was still looking for a running mate at a book launch in Abuja for the Speaker of the House of Representatives' 60th birthday. He asked the Speaker where he could find a good one.
"Tinubu said this in his speech when talking about how well Gbajabiamila and his deputy, Hon. Ahmed Wase, work together.
Tinubu said that as he kept looking for a running mate, he needed to learn from how well the two worked together.
"Wase, who worked for him, was there as well. You're great examples of how to work together, be honest, and depend on each other. Thank you. We value both of you. You haven't caused a stir. Tinubu said, "Since I'm still looking for a running mate, I'll need to find out from you both how you made your partnership work."
The group said that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu's last comment showed that finding a good running mate is still the most important thing on his mind before the 2023 election.
The group said that His Excellency Simon Bako Lalong, Governor of Plateau State and Chairman of the Northern Governors' Forum (NGF), would be a great choice for Asiwaju's running mate and would change the game.
"Lalong is a classic local politician who would be a good choice for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu's running mate for many reasons.
"Fear of running on a Muslim-Muslim ticket was one of the most important things that came up after Tinubu was chosen as the APC presidential candidate.
"Tinubu's best chance of getting out of the Muslim-Muslim ticket mess is for him to choose Lalong, a powerful politician from the north who is also a devout Christian in the ruling party.
"Given how religiously sensitive and sensitive our country is, a Muslim-Muslim ticket might not be the best thing to fly at this important time in our country's political journey. We should instead look to Lalong.
"In addition to the problem of putting two Muslims on the same ticket, Lalong was a big reason why the APC chose Tinubu as their presidential candidate.
"Lalong, who is the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, was able to convince all of his colleagues in the North that power should move to the South.

"Lalong has helped the people on the Plateau live together in peace and harmony because he cares about their religious and cultural beliefs.
The group said, "He has made the Plateau safer by reducing the number of fights and tensions."
The group said that if Asiwaju chooses Lalong as his running mate, he will be picking someone who knows a lot about the different religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of Nigerians.
The group also said that Lalong has the skills and experience to be this country's vice president.
"Lalong used to be a member of the House of Assembly for Plateau State. There, he became Speaker of the House and did other important jobs.
"As chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Lalong has been able to get the 18 governors from the North to work together. He has also made sure that things go well at the Forum."
"All of these things showed how skilled Lalong was, so it was clear that Asiwaju would choose him as his running mate.
"We strongly urge Asiwaju and other APC members to support Lalong as Tinubu's running mate," the group said.
